European Committee of the Regions. Marshal’s opinion adopted unanimously

The Marshal of the Lubelskie Voivodeship took part in the plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions, which was held in Brussels. His opinion on the European Year of Rail 2021 was adopted in voting on 14 October.

In his speech, Marshal Stawiarski emphasised the role and contribution of rail in social and economic development of the European regions paying also attention to the challenges ahead of the European rail. He also presented recommendations of the European Committee concerning promotion and development of rail.

– I am convinced that by establishing the year 2021 the European Year of Rail and thanks to active involvement of all the interested parties, we will manage to achieve the essential progress in improving the railway system of the European Union – said Marshal Stawiarski. – Rail means better accessibility of the regions, mobility of the society, economic growth and better climate. Modern transport must not only be fast, safe, comfortable and sustainable but, as recent pandemic situation shows, it must also be resistant to new crises. The European Rail System proves that it complies with these conditions.

The opinion on the European Year of Rail prepared by the Marshal of the Lubelskie Voivodeship was adopted unanimously in voting on 14 October 2020.

Three-day plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions was held in Brussels. One of the guests of the event was Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The Presidium of the Committee of the Regions (Marshal Jarosław Stawiarski has been its member since February 2020) manages the Committee of the Regions gathering 329 representatives of regional and local communities from 27 member states. While making the EU law, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament are obliged to consult self-government representatives acting in the Committee.
