On 18 September the Vice-marshal Michal Mulawa hosted Dries Willems -General Representative of the Government of Flanders in Poland and Baltic States. The main aim of the diplomat’s visit was a discussion on the Polish-Flemish cooperation.

Flanders is one of the three federal regions of Belgium situated in the northern part of the coutry and inhabited mainly by the Dutch-speaking population. Present relations between Flanders and Poland are mainly based on the agreement on cooperation signed between the Government of Flanders and the government of the Republic of Poland, supplemented with 3-year cooperation programmes containing specific settlements concerning priorities of actions.

The Lubelskie Voivodeship has positive experience in coperation with the Flemish partners. Faculty of Humanities of the Catholic University of Lublin (Department of Duch Language) intensively cooperates with the Representation of the Government of Flanders. In the past, partners from Lubelskie and West Flanders implemented a project on activating water tourism ‘Boot2 Lubelskie’. At present, also culture cooperation is developing.

Potential cooperation area is also tourism, economy, logistics and water management (Belgium, including Flanders, has valuable experience in water management).

During the meeting the Vice-marshal presented the potential of the Lubelskie Voivodeship and underlined our readiness and openess to cooperate with Flanders.
