Establishment of the „Roztocze” Euroregion (Association of Self-governments)

On 20 May  the first founding meeting of the “Roztocze” Euroregion was held at the Primary School no 2 in Tomaszów Lubelski.

The meeting was attended by 33 representatives of territorial self-government entities from the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie Voivodeships.  Management Board consisting of 5 members was established with Wojciech Żukowski (mayor of Tomaszów Mazowiecki) as a chairman.

The priority of the „Roztocze” Euroegion will be to continue creating conditions for developing transborder cooperation of the directly adjacent area of Ukraine and Poland . The intention of the new euroregion will be to protect natural environment of the border areas and to perform  tasks preventing natural disasters and threats.  Other reasons for establishing the “Roztocze” Euroregion are also related to tourist values of the Roztocze area, as well as healthy food produced here, which may become an export product.

The intention is to create permanent institutional structures, which will enable development of the region. “Roztocze”, as Euroregion will have greater chances for acquiring the EU funds for its development. The association’s plans include the following objectives:

  • updating the Strategy of Development of the Lubelskie Voivodeship up to 2030;
  • works on new Regional Operating Programme of the Lubelskie Voivodeship 2021-2027;
  • works on the EU programmes on development of rural and transborder areas.

Areas of activity:

  • improvement of residents’ life standards;
  • improvement of natural and cultural life conditions;
  • development of economic potential;
  • initiating contacts among various institutions, education, sport, cultural and other centres;
  • increasing the numer of tourists,
  • modernising the infrastructure (roads and bike routes).

The „Roztocze” Euroregion is the 17th euroregion on the map of Poland.

The „Roztocze” Euroregion was established on 7 February this year in Tomaszów Lubelski at the conference “Roztocze Euroregion – a chance for development of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland”. At that time, during the meeting (attended by, among others,  Marshal Jarosław Stawiarski, Vice-marshal Michał Mulawa and the Voivode Lech Sprawka) the letter of intent on establishing the „Roztocze” Euroregion was signed.
